About Us
Knowing that your dog is being well looked after and having fun in a safe and stimulating environment whilst you are out at work or on holiday gives you the peace of mind to enjoy your day. Set within acres of countryside on the outskirts of Earls Colne, Country Canines was established in 2023 by Kate and Richard Ramsey to provide a home boarding and day care service for small to medium sized dogs. Your dog will become part of our family with access to a large secure paddock and countryside walks plus the comfort of relaxing on beds or sofa's in our spacious and warm home. We are sure that you and your dog won’t be disappointed. Country Canines is fully licenced by Braintree District Council under licence number AAL/111 and has been awarded a four star rating which is the highest rating achievable at this stage.
Both Kate and Richard grew up surrounded by all creatures great and small. Richard lived with numerous dogs, cats and horses and spent hours out hacking with his dogs at his side. Kate, on her family’s dairy farm with cows, pigs, ducks, chickens, donkeys, ponies, guinea-pigs, cats and dogs, continued her love for animals through her work as a Veterinary Nurse, qualifying in 1998. Kate currently works part time as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in the loveliest local independent practice, Linkswood Veterinary Centre. Together with their children, on their small farm, Kate and Richard own Nellie, a true country poochkin, and two native ponies, Freddie and Ronnie.
Your dog/s will be in safe hands during their stay at Country Canines. The secure, enclosed one and a half acre garden and paddock offers uninterrupted play and frolicking for your dog/s. Walks over the remaining land (on, or off lead with your consent) and to the local woods or over the miles of public footpaths will provide further enrichment to your dog/s stay.
For those of you not wanting to leave your dog home alone which can lead to boredom, anxiety or destructive behaviour whilst you are out at work (or for any other reason), we can offer you peace of mind that at Country Canines your dog/s will receive the best care and attention in a spacious stimulating environment to exercise and socialise with other dogs which is essential to their well-being. Our aim is for your dog to have the freedom to do what dogs enjoy doing best - running, playing, paddling or swimming and exploring the smells of the surrounding countryside.
Many of our day care guests attend weekly simply to play, socialise and have fun with other dogs! Owners have noticed the benefits of their dog becoming more confident and sociable when meeting other dogs and tell us of their dog's excitement as they turn into our driveway! This is evident on arrival when we see our guests pulling their owners along to get through the front door!
Outside we have an acre and a half of securely fenced garden and paddock. Your dog/s will have daily walks outside of this area exploring our remaining land or walks over nearby public footpaths.
After all the fun and frolicking dogs will need rest periods which are built into the daily routine. Soft dog beds and sofa's are provided in our home and your dog can lie in front of the wood burner on those cold winter days!
All dogs are required to attend a meet and greet session prior to your first booking. This session is free of charge and its purpose is to ensure both you and your dog/s are happy with our home and to establish their compatibility with our and other visiting dogs. Please do not be offended if you are refused as not all dogs are suited to the day care environment. Spaces for day care are limited and priority will be given to those requiring regular care rather than those on an ad-hock basis.
Please contact us if your dog is:
* a small to medium sized dog breed
* Well socialised and fully house trained
* Happy in a group environment
* Non-aggressive
* Neutered (please contact us if your dog is under a year)
* Up to date with vaccinations INCLUDING kennel cough
* Receiving regular parasite control (flea/tick/wormer - ideally using veterinary prescribed products)
Home Boarding
While you are on holiday or away from home for an extended period for other reasons, at Country Canines we offer boarding for your dog/s inside our home. Your dog will become part of our family living with our dog and will be joined by the day boarders on weekdays.
They will share the outside space of an acre and a half of securely fenced garden and paddock. Your dog/s also will have daily walks exploring our remaining land or nearby public footpaths.
After all the fun and frolicking, dogs will need rest periods, these are built into the daily routine, soft dog beds and sofa's are provided in our home and a wood burner is lit on those cold winter days! You are welcome to bring your dog's own bed to remind them of home.
To ensure there is no sudden change in your dog's diet we ask owners to provide their dog's usual brand of food for their stay.
As with day care all dogs being home boarded are required to attend a free meet and greet session prior to your first booking. An overnight trial will also be required to ensure both you and your dog are happy with our home and to establish their compatibility with our and other visiting dogs. Please do not be offended if your dog is refused as home boarding does not suit all dogs.
A charge will be made, please see our pricing page for details.
